and why did we create it ?
The
Local Merchants Network
Is
a series of Community level search
engines for every city in
Washington state.
You
may use the City
Directory or the
Listings on the front page to
find the Community home page you
need. From
any city page you can find any
local business in that city by
using keyword searches.
The
north central Washington
region is online now. (36)
Cities and 23,000+ pages of
listings. Our goal is to
have every city in Washington
state online by the end of 2001.
We
believe
almost all
business will some day be done
ether on or in relation to the
Internet in a broad number of
ways that as yet can not be completely foreseen.
We
believe it should be as easy
to find local business on the
internet as it is to search
and find big corporate
business on the Internet.
The
question is: How can this be
done?
How
can local merchants compete
with the regional big box
stores and the Internet giants
for revenue spent in our
communities ?
As
local small business people we can
and must provide a higher level of
customer service then the big
box stores and the huge
Internet retailers who shun
personal contact and refuse to
provide an acceptable level of
customer service!
We
can better appeal to our local
customers by making our
businesses available to them
by the same means and in the
same manner they see when they
navigate the internet!

The
search engines
and
shopping portals are the
manner in witch most people
find everything on the
Internet. They are almost
impossible to deal with from a
small business standpoint.
They sell top placement for
thousands of dollars per year
and take months to ad new
listings.
It
is impossible to achieve top
search placement results
unless your business is in a category not contested
by other large companies. Then
by the luck of the draw your
page design and layout may get
you top placement in a search
results page, and result in
lots of traffic to your
website, but then it will not
be local traffic so what is
the point?
